The Inland Lakes Protection & Rehabilitation District #1 and Townsend Flowage Protection District proposes to chemically treat areas of Reservoir Pond, Little Horn and the Townsend Flowage for control of invasive species Eurasian water-milfoil. Wisconsin Lake & Pond Resource will perform the initial treatment in May/June, 2025 and will continue throughout the summer. The liquid herbicide SonasAS (fluridone active ingredient) will be used to control Eurasian  water-milfoil. Warning signs will be posted within 150’ of the affected areas at the time of  treatment which will include any restrictions relating water use as follows:

Sonar AS Treatment Areas: There are NO water use restrictions. Lake users are able to use the treated water for any recreation activities (boating, swimming, fishing, etc.), irrigation or animal watering purposes without restriction immediately after treatment.
The Districts will hold a public informational meeting on the proposed treatment if five or more individuals, organizations, special units of government or local units of government request one in writing. The person or entity requesting the meeting shall state a specific agenda of topics including problems and alternatives to be discussed. The request for the public informational meeting must be sent in writing to Wisconsin Lake & Pond Resource, N7828 Town Hall Rd, Eldorado, WI 54932 and to Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources, 2984 Shawano Ave, Green Bay, WI 54313 within five days of publication.

Aquatic Weed Study Completed

On  August 13th and 14th, 2024 Brenda Nordin and Claire with the DNR conducted a weed study on the Townsend Flowage.  This aquatic plant survey is done to determine the abundance and diversity of the aquatic plants in our waters. A volunteer from the flowage and reservoir pond assisted. Over 25 species were found and recorded.  With the help of Jim Scharl we will be taking the next steps in obtaining a permit to treat some of the invasive growth.  The study done in June addressed issues of Shoreline, Habitat, and Vegetation and one will be done in November to establish water depths. Results are available on the services page of this website.

So far this summer, the weed cutters have filled 52 dump trucks.   We understand your shoreline may be full of floating weeds from increased boat activity and the weed cutting. To prevent reseeding these weeds can be picked up and taken to the Recycle Center (hours).

Special thanks to all the volunteers on both the cutters and the dump truck.

FISHING HABITAT

Fish habitat

Some lakes are creating artificial habitats for their fish. Some are using untreated Christmas trees, unfortunately it is not recommended for the flowage due to our shallow depths. Together with DNR suggestions, we can work on building fish other types of habitat. Find out how you can help us while staying compliant with the

Wisconsin DNR regulations.
